Being a photographer and tender to a flock of laying hens this photo accompanying a NYTIMES article about keeping chickens in other than rural settings peaked my interest. The practical, agricultural hobby described in the attached story has been on the rise in urban communities. Seen in backyard alleys, on rooftops, basements and on ships docked in harbors it has become a practice in unusual urban locales. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/19/dining/19yard.html?ref=diningThat being said this image is filled with symbolism, almost dreamlike in its composition with a young woman holding a basket of eggs wearing overalls, a ballcap backwards and Chesire cat smile. It is open to so many diverse interpretations some them reflections of the viewers inner mirror but all of them fully appreciative of the strange and wonderful world around us.
